FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
September 8, 2005
Seattle Online Video Service, Inc. (OVS), the nationally recognized leader in Internet broadcasting for public affairs, today announced it will be working with the not-for-profit Alaska Sea Life Center and the Alaska Department of Fish and Game to operate the agency's Walrus Cam through 2006.
Monitoring population levels and conducting research on the Pacific walrus is difficult because of their habits and remote habitats. Researchers are using onsite cameras and streaming video to keep watch on beaches where walrus live. The 24/7 streaming video feeds also educate the public about walrus behavior.
[Update: The Walrus cam is currently offline due to winter conditions. OVS and the Alaska Sea Life Center plan to have the camera back online sometime in spring 2006.]
